Alexis Sarah Elizabeth Gomez...wow, she sure has a lot of names! But right now, let's just go with Alexis. She's a six foot tall, blonde haired, Mexican Hillbilly! ...Again wierd, right? Weird or not this girl can sing!
Alexis recently showed America her talent as she competed in the Fox reality hit, American Idol Season XIV. She made it to the Top 16, being one of the Top 8 girls! America loved Alexis and her self proclaimed 'Mexican, Hillbilly, Hippie' style and sound that she brought to Country Music! Her stage presence, energy and star-like quality, combined with her powerful vocals, lets us all know that we'll be hearing much more from this young lady soon!
But let's rewind a little. Alexis grew up in the Dayton area and has been singing and playing music for as long as she can remember. Her dad, brother, and sister are all musicians so she didn't really have much choice in the matter! As she got older, she joined the family band and it wasn't long before she was stealing the show. She plays guitar and piano, and dabbles around with a few other instruments to include banjo, bass and drums. That instrumental talent, combined with her clean country vocals has contributed greatly to her success. But it's also her songwriting that has been noticed and recognized in these last few years. She's won a number of local contests where she's been given the opportunity to showcase some of her original music. Alexis will tell you "Every opportunity has been so life-changing, and I have such a blast performing live, but I love getting to play the songs that I write as much as anything!"
Alexis' influences are all over country music, but her strongest role models are The Band Perry, Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Martina McBride and Garth Brooks. You can definitley hear those influences from the first note Alexis sings! She plays with the Mad River Band all throughout Ohio, as well as with a variety of bands in Nashville on the Broadway strip. Alexis says "Playing and singing wtih so many talented artists has helped me so much! I think surrounding yourself with musicians that you can learn from is what will make you a better artist!" She's also one of the Worship Leaders at SouthBrook Christian Church in Miamisburg Ohio, her home church since she was a child. She will tell you, "I work hard at this, but at the end of the day, I know this is a gift that God has given me. I always try to remember that and thank Him every chance I get!"
Next to music, her passion is Spanish. She loves the language and her Latina culture. Alexis graduated in the spring of '14 from Wright State University with her bachelors degree in Spanish. "As an artist I hope to be able to create music that people want to sing and listen to. I would also love to bring something a little different to Country Music, which is where I hope to weave in some of my Mexican heritage into my music".
Alexis is excited for what's ahead and as you might imagine is already looking at a busy year. Please follow her on her social media and website to find a show in your area.
